Patrick Van Oost was born on May 27, 1957 in Tournai and has been living in Ghent since 1962.
After the scientific humanities at St.Barbara College in Ghent, he succeeded
at the St.Lucas Institute also in Ghent first in Interior Arts (1977-1979) and subsequently in Plastic Arts , specialisation Graphical Design (1977 -- 1982).
Between 1984 and 1986 he was an assistant at the Higher Institute of Arts St. Lucas and taught Graphical Design there for 3 years.
Since 1982 he has been working as a freelance graphic designer. The first years mainly as a publicity illustrator, then as a designer of thousands of projects such as logos, corporate identities, packaging,
brochures, catalogs, books and three dimensional realizations.
Over the last years he was active in communication with the Van Oost & Co–creative communication company.
Communication today is still his main activity.
“Drawing was always my favorite activity, but the bustle of my professional activity didn’t allow me to concentrate on this for years.
I discovered photography at the age of 10 with some friends. Photography was easy to
combine with my job, so the last 20
years I mainly photographed and travelled the world around. But my very busy professional life and the cold world of my computer brought me back to drawing.
The warm atmosphere of an art supplies shop, the manual gestures and the emotion of color experience are for me a counterbalance to the busy computerized communications world. The contact with lovers of color and shape is a true
satisfaction to me.”
